Fundamentals of Public Participation / Engagement
October 5, 2026
9 a.m. start
The focus of this course is on understanding and applying the practices of meaningful and effective public participation (P2). The training explores principles, concepts and best practices, and how to design and apply this knowledge to your public participation and engagement work.
Fee: $400 plus HST
Note: this course is a prerequisite for the next two courses
DESIGNing public participation / engagement
October 6 & 7
9 a.m. start
This course dives into the first two phases of the practice framework, providing the opportunity to develop public participation and engagement practice plans. This includes scoping, community mapping, purpose and objectives, levels of influence, choosing appropriate methods and managing resources, while considering the needs of diverse audiences.
Fee: $800 plus HST
Applying Methods
October 8 & 9
9 a.m. start
This course focuses on exploring a variety of engagement methods and considers how to design and integrate those methods into engagement processes. We test different methods based on interest. Participants will gain and refine skills to select, assess and create details of each method to work meaningfully with participants.

Fine Print
Cancellation Policy: All change requests must be made in writing.
If something unforeseen happens, please let us know as soon as possible and we will make every effort to find a solution.
Written requests for cancellation received 15 business days or more before the training start date will receive a full refund.
Written cancellations received within 15 business days of the course start date are eligible for a 50% refund, OR participants can choose to receive a 100% course credit, valid for 12 months from the original course date, OR transfer their registration to another participant.
It is not possible to provide refunds or credits once the courses have started.
We require a minimum number of participants to run an in-person course and therefore reserve the right to cancel a course up to two weeks prior to the course start date.
Eligibility for Certificates: Certificates of completion are issued for each course. After completion of the 3 courses in this bundle, a Certificate in P2 is issued by IAP2 Canada. Full attendance at all sessions is required.
Registration for Designing P2 and / or Applying Methods: Registration in either of these core courses requires completion of the prerequisite course Fundamentals of P2. Eligibility will be confirmed through IAP2 Canada prior to the start of these courses.
Confirming Registration: Once we’ve received your information and confirmed availability, we will email you payment information to complete the registration process. Registration is confirmed upon receipt of payment. We accept payment via e-transfer and cheque.
